Resort 2014 Trend: Feathers Are No Longer Just For Birds...

I rather enjoy this time of year from a sartorial perspective, Autumn/Winter collections are adorning mannequins on the high street, warm luxurious knits and jumper dresses, not to mention glimpses into next years trends, which brings us to today's post:

Resort 2014 Trend: Feathers

Yep that's right, feathers... I know, I know it sounds rather over the top, something only the most clued in fashionistas could pull off - not to mention the frazzling choice of how to style the look. Believe it or not, it can be incorporate into your wardrobe in a far more subtle way than you might think.

Take a look at these Resort 2014 pieces by Prabal Gurung, Matthew Williamson and Carlos Miele.

Last year feathers hit the runway and took the fashion world by storm. However, I was somewhat surprised to hear we're going to see all things plumage related on the catwalk next year too.

Brand Wave described it as an original trend:

'Found in a cave near Verona, Italy, paleoanthroopologist Marco Peresani found 660 bird bones where feathers were removed and believed to be used for ornamentation. Of the birds found and de-feathered, most were known to be good food sources, and it was evident that only the most beautiful feathers were plucked.
Let's not forget the 20th century when feathers made it onto the fashion scene during the flapper era. The feathers were thought to add movement to dresses while dancing, but these accessories gradually became more accessible to the common class'.

Think The Great Gatsby...

Celebrity inspiration from Beyonce, Kate Bosworth and Cheryl Cole. Three ladies with drastically different style who pull it off whilst staying true to their own sense of style and taste.

Is it wearable? Following some research, I believe so. Will I be trying trend? I don't think so... As someone who prefer classic, simple lines I'm not entirely sure I could pull it off. I'm sure many of you could and for some feathered inspiration check out the widget below!

One word of advice? Keep it minimal. If wearing a skirt with feather detailing - select a plain top and a classic pair of shoes and if (like me) the trend isn't for you accessorise, accessorise, accessorise :)
