Royal Ascot Fashion Police + Style Guide

The fashion police have descended on Royal Ascot, one of the most popular events in the sporting and social  calendar and attended by over 300,000 racegoers annually.

Led by model Amber Le Bon, a number of 'dress code assistants' will be on hand at this year's festival offering style advice and corrections in a bid to reintroduce style befitting such a prestigious event. Setting a stellar example, the style assistants will be dressed in silver shift dresses and matching jackets by high street favourite Hobbs.

Charles Barnett, Chief Executive at Ascot Racecourse, spoke about the dress code which was introduced in 2012:

'We were delighted with the reception of the new dress code last year, which endorsed our decision to make such changes. Royal Ascot is an event where people like to dress up and they feel a bit let down when those around them don't.
The dress code assistants were a tremendous addition to the customer welcome last year, providing advice and where necessary minor corrections. Once again Hobbs London will be providing their outfits, so that they are beautifully presented at the entrances and easily identifiable.'

The Royal Ascot Style Guide provides a whole host of tips and sartorial examples to ensure one doesn't put a foot wrong. It would be terribly embarrassing to have one of the dress code assistants come over to politely tell you you're dressing inappropriately (ultimate red face moment).

Guests in the grandstand are encouraged to wear a dress as for a formal occasion. A hat, headpiece or fascinator should be worn at all times. Jackets and pashminas may be worn, with dresses and tops that comply with the dress code. Strapless or sheer strap dresses are not permitted. Trousers must be full length and shorts are a definite no-no.

It's all about returning to classic and elegant dressing for the event which is attended by members of the Royal Family.

There are still endless options for those who love to express their individuality through their style and want to try something a little different, such as this Mulberry suit.

Press campaigns have been launched to get the message across. I really have to commend whoever chose the outfits used for examples. How beautiful is this Emilia Wickstead dress and Philip Treacy hat?
